WHO Mission’s Visit to Kyiv Medical University

On March 26, 2026, representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO) visited Kyiv Medical University as part of a partnership with the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research (AHPSR).

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the interim results of the research project “War and the Workforce, Coping Strategies, and Health System Recovery in Ukraine.”

This project, conducted by Kyiv Medical University, analyzes the dynamics of healthcare workforce staffing, the resilience factors of medical professionals, and pathways for the recovery of Ukraine’s healthcare system during 2022-2025. Special attention is paid to how healthcare workers adapted to the challenges of war and ensured the continuity of healthcare.

The following representatives participated in the visit to Kyiv Medical University:

  • Dr. Kumanan Rasanathan, Director of the Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research at WHO.
  • Dr. Samuel Boland, expert in global public health and head of the Alliance’s research portfolio on regions affected by fragility, conflict, and violence.

Together with representatives of Kyiv Medical University, they discussed the preliminary findings of the study, exchanged experiences, and provided expert recommendations. The visit served as an important platform for knowledge transfer and for discussing ways to strengthen Ukraine’s healthcare system under the difficult conditions of war.

Kyiv Medical University expresses its gratitude to the WHO team and partners from the AHPSR Alliance for supporting scientific initiatives and contributing to the resilience of the Ukrainian healthcare system.
