Areas of scientific activity

An important component of the activities of scientific and pedagogical workers which provide training in educational programs in scientific work. 19 scientific-research works are being performed at the University. Some part of the research is carried out in cooperation with other institutions:

– Chuiko Institute of Surface Chemistry National Academy of Science of Ukraine
– Center of Molecular Physiology National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
– Dmitry F. Chebotarev Institute of Gerontology of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine
– Chernihivskyi city medical center “Medicap” and many others

The results of scientific activity are the basis for updating the content of educational programs. Way of implementation scientific-research works and dissertations are regularly heard and discussed at meetings of the Academic Council of the University.

The results of research work of the departments are displayed in 274 articles and 257 theses of scientific and practical performances. 137 articles were published in professional journals, 18 monographs and 23 textbooks and manuals were published. An indicator of the quality of scientific activity of Kyiv Medical University is the growth of the amount of publications in publishing houses, which are included in the scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science (from 29 (2018) to 43 (2019)).

The results of scientific research of the departments were reported at 35 scientific and practical events which are organized by the University.

At scientific and practical events, the content of the educational program is discussed by employers, applicants of educational services, scientific and pedagogical workers. These discussions have influence on changes that are added to the educational program.

Internationalization of scientific and pedagogical staff of the University is carried out through their participation in 26 international scientific and international organizations, in the implementation of 3 international projects and programs, publication of research results on 35 foreign forums, publication of 43 articles in public houses that are included in the scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science, internships in foreign universities and healthcare institutions.

Kyiv Medical University promotes scientific activities being performed by the applicants of educational services. There are student research groups in the areas of teaching at each department. Particularly effective ones are:
– Student Derma Club (Dermatology)
– Student Denta Club (Dentistry)
– Armata Manus (Surgery)
– Genius Loci (Latin)
– student research group of the Department of Public Health and Microbiology
– student research group of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Biological Chemistry, Pharmacognosy
– student research group of the Department of Pediatrics
– student research group of the Department of Surgery №1
– student research group of the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry and Physical Rehabilitation

In science clubs, students perform descriptive, analytical and experimental research. The University organizes thematic improvement courses in the organization, planning, implementation of research, choice of research design, statistical data processing, preparation of reports, articles, presentations, security documents, etc. For such courses KMU even invites specialists from international organizations, of both national and international level.

Many scientific and practical events, organized by the University, have sections for young scientists, where students present the results of scientific research. Periodically, on a free basis, the University organizes the publication of scientific works of young scientists.

Annually, competitions and brain-rings are organized by the University for young scientists. We also invite well-known experts of national and international level to discuss topical issues.

In recent years, Kyiv Medical University has participated in the All-Ukrainian competition of student research works. The first stage of the competition is carried out at the University’s departments. Next, the best works are to be heard at the scientific-practical conference, dedicated to the first tour of the All-Ukrainian competition of student research works. In 2019, the best research works of 12 students were sent to the basic institutions of the II tour of the All-Ukrainian competition. 2 works received prizes, 5 – special awards. In 2020, 9 best student research works were selected and sent to the basic institutions of the II tour of the All-Ukrainian competition of student research works.

In 2021, according to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine №1457 “About holding the All-Ukrainian competition of the student research works in the fields of knowledge and specialties in 2020/2021 academic year”, dated 24.11.2020, the University was selected as basic higher educational institution for carrying out the organization of the All-Ukrainian student research work on the “Pediatrics” specialty. The University supports young scientists by providing full financial support for the participation of the authors of the best scientific works in the II tour of the All-Ukrainian competition of student scientific works. The University awards the winners of that competition with the opportunity to visit the exhibition of medical devices in Germany at the expense of Kyiv Medical University.
