On December 23rd, the Cultural Portal club met to discuss ChristmasChristmas is one of the most favorite holidays of the year, with centuries-old traditions, that are held in high regard around the world. This is a wonderful holiday of love and hope that is celebrated with great respect to all of the customs among families all over the globe. During the meeting, teachers and students gave lively presentations on the history and traditions of Christmas celebrations. Participants of the meeting learned many new and interesting facts about the roots of the festival. The religious issue was also addressed, as the Birth of Christ is one of the most important Christian feasts, commemorated by the Christian Church with great solemnity. At the event, attendees got to know about Christmas traditions in Germany, Ukraine, Ireland, India, Sweden, and Africa. Maja Bessert spoke about the traditions of celebrating Christmas in Sweden, and Esther Amarachi Ojukwu in her presentation showed how people celebrate Christmas in Nigeria (lead. Olena Yurchenko). Ashling Teniola Oladele talked about interesting facts regarding the traditions of celebrating this wonderful holiday in Ireland. Friedrich Lennard Dorer showed in his presentation how Christmas is celebrated in Germany, and Tofig Farhadov talked about the celebration of Christmas in Azerbaijan (lead. Olena Yurchenko). Students Oksana Borodiy and Anna Molibog (lead. Maryna Mykhailiuk) spoke about the traditions of celebrating Christmas in Ukraine. Throughout the event, organizer Olena Yurchenko coordinated and assisted the participants. At the end of the meeting, the students passed a quiz on how well they remembered the traditions of celebrating Ukrainian Christmas. The quiz was organized by Olena Popova. Students talked enthusiastically about Christmas rituals that are observed not only in their native countries, but also in their own families. The event drew more than 20 students from our University, demonstrating the importance of the issue and the participants’ general interest. The “Cultural Portal” club meetings at Kyiv Medical University bring together students from many countries, introducing them to Ukrainian traditions, customs, and language. They help to broaden their perspectives, and promote the acquisition of excellent communication skills and cross-cultural knowledge. 29.12.2021
