Happy Africa Day

Africa Day is an annual holiday celebrated on May 25. The holiday is timed to the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which took place on May 25, 1963 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In 2002, the OAU was renamed to African Union. That day has become a symbol of African unity. Today, the African Union unites 55 independent countries.

Exhibitions of paintings and other works of art, as well as thematic lectures on the cultures of African countries are planned in Kyiv (May 25-June 7) as part of the celebration of Africa Day in Ukraine.

Events schedule:
• May 29, 14:00-18:00 – introduction to the film industry of Africa. Movies screening
• June 5, 14:00-18:00 – introduction to the the musical art of Africa
• June 6, 14:00-18:00 – introduction to the African literature and other arts. Master class on playing traditional musical instruments. Mini-concert

All events will take place on the premises of the National Museum of Literature of Ukraine (11, B. Khmelnytsky St).

This year’s Africa Day is celebrated under the slogan: “Arts, Culture And Heritage: Levers for Building the Africa We Want”.
