Department of Pharmacology and PharmacotherapyHead of the Department Tymchenko Iryna Mykolaivna, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor. She graduated from O.O. Bogomolets National Medical University with a degree in Dentistry in 1998. From 1998 to 2006, she worked as a dentist at the Kyiv Center for Modern Technologies in Dentistry. From 2006 to 2012, she worked as a scientific and pedagogical assistant at Kyiv Medical University. Since 2012, she has been an associate professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pharmacy. She has held the title of Candidate of Medical Sciences since 2012. She defended her dissertation on the topic: ‘Optimization of Technological Processes for the Creation of Medicinal Films Based on Mathematical Models’ at the specialized council of the P. L. Shupyk National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. She has 14 years of teaching experience. In 2015, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pharmacy. In January 2017, she was elected by competition to the position of Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry. She has been a member of the Board of the Kyiv City Organization NGO ‘Association of Dentists of Ukraine’ since 2019 and a member of the Board of the NGO ‘Association of Periodontologists of Ukraine’ since 2020. Since December 17, 2024, she has served as the Head of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy. Tymchenko I.M. is the author and co-author of over 150 scientific papers. The department provides instruction in educational components in Ukrainian and English for second-level higher education students of the pharmaceutical, dental, and medical faculties, as well as for pharmacist interns specializing in ‘General Pharmacy’ and third-level higher education students in ‘Pharmacology’. Since 2016, postgraduate training for pharmacist interns (referred to as pharmacist interns since 2021) has been conducted through an internship program. The curriculum includes subjects such as “Pharmacy in Emergency Conditions,” “Pharmaceutical Care,” and ” Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Practice” “Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Care”. The department has developed methodological materials for all educational components, available in both Ukrainian and English. Faculty members are actively working on creating methodological manuals, study guides, and journals with methodological recommendations to support students in practical training, independent study, and correspondence courses. Moreover, a “Domestic Medicines” display stand and a collection of medicines from various pharmacological groups have been established. The department continuously updates the database of test tasks for disciplines included in the licensing exams of the Ukrainian State Educational Service Center (STEP-1 and STEP-2). Efforts are ongoing to enhance the educational process by incorporating modern teaching methods such as training sessions, interactive games, and video case studies. Additionally, faculty members have developed and regularly update multimedia resources to support lectures across all educational components. Introduction to Phytotherapy – Aspects of Pharmacognosy (2019)
As part of the department’s research theme, “Experimental Substantiation of Mechanisms of Action and Pharmacological Effects of Biologically Active Substances,” faculty members have published 100 articles, conference materials, and report abstracts over the past five years. These publications include works featured in professional and scientometric databases such as Scopus and Web of Science (WoS). The candidate’s thesis by S.O. Khudolia on the topic “The Influence of Central Cholinergic Systems on the Progression of the Acute Period of Traumatic Brain Injury” was submitted for defense to the Specialized Council on March 14, 2004, in the field of pathological physiology. Over the past five years, student members of the department’s scientific club have received Diplomas and Certificates at international and all-Ukrainian congresses, symposiums, and conferences of young scientists and students. They have also actively participated in student Olympiads. The department actively promotes interdisciplinary integration and has established a cooperation agreement with the State Institution “Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology” of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. Under this partnership, faculty members and students, including members of the scientific student club, participate in experimental research.
The Department of Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pathological Physiology was established in 1993. From its founding until 2022, the department was led by Professor V. A. Tumanov, Doctor of Medical Sciences. The first faculty members of the department included:
Tumanov V.A. was the author and co-author of nearly 400 scientific papers, 18 monographs, textbooks, and teaching aids. His notable works include: Pharmacology (1982, 2001, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2016) Monographs: Angioprotectors (1982) Handbook of Clinical Pharmacology (1986) Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology (1995) Neonatology (2004) Pharmacology of Cardiovascular Diseases in Children (2006) Poisonous Plants (2011) Fundamentals of Pharmacognosy and Phytotherapy (2015) Modern Encyclopedia of Traditional and Alternative Medicine (2016) and others. Tumanov V.A. played an active role in the establishment of the Pharmacological Committee in Ukraine and has served for many years as the head of the Expert Commission on Phytotherapy and Homeopathy at the State Expert Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. He was also a WHO expert on herbal medicines and a co-author of the monograph “WHO Monographs on Medicinal Plants Commonly Used in the Newly Independent States (NIS)” (2010). Alongside his scientific and pedagogical work, Tumanov V.A. was actively involved in public service. He was a member of the Interuniversity Center for Scientific Research and Cooperation in Eastern and Southeastern Europe, a member of the Advisory Bureau of the American Biographical Institute, and served as an expert for the State Academic Committee of Ukraine. He also headed the Kyiv region of the Coordinating Council of the Association of Privately Owned Educational Institutions, was a member of the Ukrainian Peace Council, an “Ambassador of Peace” from the International Peace Federation, and participated in the editorial boards of several scientific journals. Professor V.A. Tumanov has been awarded the “Badge of Honor” Order (1981), the Order of “For the Development of Education” (2006), and the honorary award from the Association of Educational Institutions of Ukraine (Private Ownership) “For the Spiritual Revival of the Nation” (2008). In 2007, he was awarded the honorary badge from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine “For Scientific Achievements.” He was a laureate of the Yaroslav the Wise Award (2002) and the Saint Vladimir Award in Science and Technology (2011) from the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education of Ukraine. In 2014, the Department of Drug Technology, Organization, and Economics of Pharmacy was merged with the Department of Pharmacology. As a result, the new Department of Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pharmacy, Drug Technology was formed, with Professor Viktor Andriyovych Tumanov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, as its head. In March 2019, following the decision of the Academic Council and the order of the University, two departments were reorganized and formed: the Department of Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pathological Physiology, and the Department of Pharmaceutical Management, Clinical Pharmacy, and Drug Technology. From August 2022 to February 2024, the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy was headed by Sereda P.I. The scientific work of P.I. Sereda includes over 170 scientific papers and 27 patents for inventions. He was the author of 4 study guides and 1 textbook. Petro Ivanovych defended his doctoral dissertation (1993) on the topic: “Research on Memory Disorders of Toxic Genesis and the Development of Principles for Their Pharmacological Correction.” Marchenko-Tolsta K.S., Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Department, performed the duties of the Department Head from February to December 2024. In 2010, she graduated from Kyiv Medical University. Since 2016, she has worked as an assistant at the Department of Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pathological Physiology. Her scientific research focuses on the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in patients with comorbid conditions, as well as the combined use of antirheumatic, anti-inflammatory, and antihypertensive drugs. She is the author and co-author of 20 scientific articles. She is working on her dissertation for a PhD degree in Pharmacology titled “Effecacy and Safety of Immunosuppressants and Amlodipine in Experimental Rheumatoid Arthritis Comorbid with Hypertension.” Since December 17, 2024, the department has been headed by Tymchenko Iryna Mykolaivna. In 1998, she graduated from the National Medical University named after O.O. Bohomolets, with a degree in “Dentistry.” From 1998 to 2006, she worked at the Kyiv Center for Modern Dental Technologies as a dentist. From 2006 to 2012, she was engaged in scientific and pedagogical work at the Private Higher Educational Institution “Kyiv Medical University” as an assistant, and since 2012, as an associate professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pharmacy. She has been a Candidate of Medical Sciences since 2012. She defended her dissertation titled “Optimization of Technological Processes in the Creation of Medicinal Films Based on Mathematical Models” at the Specialized Council of the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education named after P.L. Shupyk, Ministry of Health of Ukraine. She has 14 years of teaching experience. In 2015, she was awarded the academic title of Associate Professor at the Department of Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Pharmacology, and Pharmacy. In January 2017, she was elected as Dean of the Dental Faculty through a competitive process. She has been a member of the Board of the Public Organization “Association of Dentists of Ukraine” since 2019 and a member of the Board of the Public Organization “Association of Periodontists of Ukraine” since 2020. Iryna Mykolaivna Tymchenko is the author and co-author of more than 150 scientific works.
