Faculty of DentistryThe Faculty of Dentistry was established in 1993. The founder and organizer was Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Myron Zakson, who worked at the Department of Surgical Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery. Over the next 20 years, the faculty was headed by: O.Mirza, I. Molozhanov, I. Trubka, S. Vitkovska, I. Chernikov, I. Pechkovska, O.Azarov, and I. Tymchenko. In 2024, the faculty came under the leadership of DMD, PhD, Associate Professor Denys Makhnytskyi. The training at the faculty is conducted under the educational program “Dentistry.” The guarantor of the educational program is Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Oksana Kopchak. The Department of Surgical Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery was established in 1992. From 1992 to 1998, the head of the department was Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Myron Zakson. Since 1998, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine, Professor Oleksii Tymofieiev. The Department of Prosthodontics was founded in 1994. From 1994 to 2005, the department was headed by Professor O. Mirza. At that time, the department was staffed by renowned educators and clinicians – Associate Professors V. Pinchuk, H. Lutik, and A.Zvolinska. From 2005 to 2007, the department was led by V.Bida. From 2007 to 2024 – Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Svitlana Doroshenko. Since 2024, the Department of Prosthodontics and Orthodontics has been headed by Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Olena Patalakha. The Department of Pediatric Therapeutic Dentistry was established in 2009. The first head of the department was Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Ihor Molozhanov. Since 2012, the department has been led by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Inessa Yakubova. The Department of Therapeutic Dentistry was founded in 1995. Until 2008, it was headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Oleksii Marchenko. From 2008 to 2016, the department was led by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Antonina Politun. Since 2018, the department has been headed by Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Oksana Kopchak. In 2015, based on the Faculty of Dentistry at Kyiv Medical University, the University Dental Center “UNIVERSYTETSKYI” was established. That same year, the Dental Center became part of a UNDP project aimed at creating jobs for internally displaced persons. Over the years, the Faculty of Dentistry at KMU has trained about 2,600 dental practitioners. The faculty provides opportunities for scientific research, hosts student scientific clubs, and students participate in national and international conferences, student Olympiads, workshops, congresses, and conventions. A vibrant and multifaceted student life is enriched by artistic ensembles and sports clubs. Today, the faculty has 510 domestic and 52 international students enrolled.
Denys Makhnytskyi, DMD, PhD In 2006, he graduated with honors from O.O. Bohomolets National Medical University, majoring in Dentistry. In 2008, after completing his internship, he began working at the Private Higher Educational Institution “Kyiv Medical University” in the Department of Prosthodontics and Orthodontics as a senior laboratory assistant. Since 2009, he has been working as an assistant professor at the department, teaching prosthodontics and orthodontics, including to English-speaking students. From 2016 to 2022, he worked at the “UNIVERSYTETSKYI” Dental Center as an orthodontist. He has held a PhD in Medical Sciences since 2017. His dissertation topic: “Prevention and treatment of secondary dentoalveolar deformities in children caused by early tooth loss,” scientific advisor: Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor S.I. Doroshenko. He has 16 years of teaching experience. In December 2024, he was elected, by competition, as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry. He is a member of the “Ukrainian Dental Association” and the “Association of Orthodontists of Ukraine.” Denys Makhnytskyi on studying at the Faculty of Dentistry: “Student years are remembered for a lifetime.
