Winter examination session begins at Kyiv Medical University: third-year dentistry students take pharmacology exam

On December 15, an important stage began at Kyiv Medical University for third-year students of the Faculty of Dentistry — the winter examination session.
The first serious challenge was the Pharmacology exam, which took place at the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacotherapy.

The examination process was headed by Head of the Department, PhD in Medical Sciences, Associate Professor Iryna Mykolaivna Tymchenko. The examination board included Deputy Head of the Department, Senior Lecturer Kateryna Serhiivna Marchenko-Tolsta, and Assistant Lecturer, PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences Margaryta Yuriivna Zolotaikina. The practical part was conducted by Associate Professor Gasae Sepideh Parchami and Senior Lecturer Larysa Heorhiivna Novykova.

This year, the exam was conducted in an updated format, which allowed moving away from simple reproduction of knowledge in favor of developing real professional competencies.

The exam consisted of the following stages:

• Theoretical block: multiple-choice tests and drug classification questions.

• Practical block: identifying drugs for emergency care.

• Analytical block: solving complex pharmacological problems and justifying drug use.

The implementation of this format is part of the university’s strategy to integrate theory and practice, prepare students for the Unified State Qualification Examination (EDKI), and assess students comprehensively while minimizing subjective factors.

“Updating the exam format is a step toward training a competitive dentist capable of making quick and well-reasoned decisions in critical situations,” emphasized Iryna Tymchenko.
