News of the Humanities Department

On Thursday, November 24, the Cultural Portal club hosted its latest meeting at the Humanities Department, with a focus on Media Literacy. This session, conducted in English, provided an engaging platform for students to present and discuss pressing issues in today’s media landscape.

The discussion, moderated by Senior Lecturer I.K. Shevchuk, featured the following presentations:

  1. Anastasia Olifer (Group S 2409) presented on “Censorship vs. Free Speech,” exploring the delicate balance between freedom and regulation in the information space. Supervised by Y.I. Sardanova.
  2. Evgeniya Buravleva (Group S 2409) delivered her presentation, “Media Literacy: Fake News and Its Consequences,” examining the creation of fake news and its broader social impacts. Supervised by Y.I. Sardanova.
  3. Ilona Demidenko (Group M 2302) presented “Global Approaches to Media Literacy: Navigating Information in Diverse Contexts,” providing an insightful look at media literacy strategies and regulatory approaches worldwide. Supervised by Senior Lecturer Ya.I. Kolinko.
  4. Maryana Karpenko and Alina Gurkalo (Group S 2405) collaborated on the presentation “Censorship vs. Free Speech: Striking the Balance,” discussing the interplay between free speech and censorship. Supervised by Y.I. Sardanova.
  5. Sofia Monastyretskaya (Group S 2405) concluded with her presentation, “Deepfake,” addressing the creation of synthetic media and the techniques used to recognize and counter it. Supervised by Y.I. Sardanova.

The session fostered a friendly and collaborative atmosphere, where participants enthusiastically engaged in discussions, raised questions, and exchanged views on a variety of media literacy topics.

The Humanities Department is pleased to announce an upcoming session of our discussion club, scheduled for late November 2024. This session will explore the theme: “Collectivistic vs. Individualistic Cultures.” Given the relevance of this topic, we invite all interested students and faculty.
