Kyiv Medical University students develop cardiovascular surgery skills under the guidance of German expertsThe international clinical internship of Kyiv Medical University students within the German-Ukrainian Surgical Summer School 2026 provides participants with access to advanced surgical techniques and hands-on training led by leading European surgeons. One of the key components of the programme was a series of hands-on cardiovascular surgery workshops organized by the cardiac surgery team of Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH, Lübeck, Germany). The practical sessions were conducted in the VetLab format, offering an experience that closely replicates the conditions of a real operating theatre. Under the supervision of Professor Pühler, Professor Ensminger, and with the direct participation of Dr. Felix Hausbeck, students practised cannulation techniques as well as aortic and aortic valve replacement procedures using biological models. This training format not only helps participants refine their practical surgical skills but also provides valuable insight into the workflow of a cardiac surgery team and contemporary surgical approaches. The combination of an international clinical internship, close collaboration with leading specialists, and participation in intensive practical training is one of the greatest strengths of the German-Ukrainian Surgical Summer School 2026, providing Kyiv Medical University students with outstanding opportunities for professional growth. We sincerely thank the team of Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein for their long-standing support of the project, their commitment to international academic cooperation, and the unique opportunities they create for educating the next generation of medical professionals. 30.07.2026
