Kyiv Medical University Representatives Participated in the Final Online Conference of the RE-DIRECTION ProjectOn 15 October 2026, representatives of Kyiv Medical University took part in the final online conference of the international Erasmus+ RE-DIRECTION project – «Redefining Higher Education for Digital, Inclusive and Sustainable Practice», which was held via Zoom. Kyiv Medical University was represented by Rector of the university, professor Borys Ivniev, and Associate Professor at the Department of Neurology, Psychiatry and Physical Rehabilitation, Tetiana Odintsova. The conference was also attended by 20 stakeholders affiliated with KMU, highlighting the interest of the university community and external partners in the further implementation of the project results. In total, representatives from more than 400 interested higher education and healthcare institutions attended the meeting. The event was opened by Prof. Dr. Robert Lepenies, President of Karlshochschule International University, Germany, who presented the key results of the three-year international cooperation and the main stages of RE-DIRECTION implementation. During the conference, participants reviewed the project journey from analysing labour market needs and identifying skills gaps to developing a methodological framework, updating curricula, creating digital educational resources, piloting eLearning courses, and formulating recommendations for the further development of higher education. Within RE-DIRECTION, 25 courses across 13 curricula were updated, while teaching materials were developed for nine courses. The newly developed courses are available as Open Educational Resources in English, Ukrainian, and Georgian on a joint asynchronous eLearning platform. Particular attention was given to the practical experience of implementing digital education under wartime conditions. Tetiana Odintsova presented the experience of Kyiv Medical University and spoke about the current situation at the Kyiv campus, the main challenges of digital learning during the full-scale war, and the solutions used during the RE-DIRECTION pilot. Among the key challenges discussed were air-raid alerts, missile and drone attacks, prolonged power outages, unstable internet access, unequal technical opportunities among students, and the psychological burden associated with studying during wartime. One of the most effective solutions was the asynchronous learning format, which allows students to access educational materials at a convenient and safe time, reduces dependence on continuous internet connectivity, and supports the combination of digital learning with practical training. The conference also addressed inclusivity in higher education, the results of the pilot implementation of the courses, the role of students and employers in improving curricula, and recommendations for the digital transformation of the Ukrainian higher education system. A separate emphasis was placed on ensuring that the outcomes of RE-DIRECTION continue to be used after the end of the grant funding period. Promising directions include integrating successful eLearning modules into existing curricula, continued use of Open Educational Resources, further development of asynchronous learning, regular collection of student feedback, and continued international and cross-sectoral cooperation. Kyiv Medical University’s participation in RE-DIRECTION contributes to the implementation of modern European approaches to digitalisation, inclusion, and sustainability in education, while also strengthening the resilience of the educational process in response to the challenges currently facing Ukrainian higher education. 16.10.2026
