KMU Polish Campus students mastered basic surgical skills and fundamentals of plastic surgery during a workshop led by Olena Rozhkova

On August 21, 2026, as part of KMU Summer Medical Camp 2026, students of KMU Polish Campus participated in a practical workshop on Basic Surgical Skills (BOSS) with Fundamentals of Plastic Surgery, conducted by university faculty member Olena Rozhkova.

The workshop focused on developing practical competencies essential for future physicians in everyday clinical practice. Particular attention was given to the principles of atraumatic tissue handling, understanding the layered anatomical structure of tissues, and practicing fundamental surgical techniques.

During the practical session, students worked with anatomical specimens and had the opportunity to focus on skills used in plastic and reconstructive surgery. In particular, participants practiced specialized cosmetic suturing techniques designed to minimize the visibility of postoperative scars.

Special emphasis was placed on the fact that a cosmetic suture is not merely a method of wound closure, but an important component of modern surgical culture that requires precision, aesthetic awareness, and meticulous attention to every millimeter of tissue.

Proper suturing technique helps reduce skin tension, promotes optimal tissue healing, may decrease postoperative discomfort, and contributes to making future scars less noticeable.

For the students, the workshop provided an opportunity not only to observe the practical application of surgical techniques, but also to independently practice key elements of surgical procedures under the guidance of an experienced instructor.

Practice-oriented education is an important component of KMU Polish Campus, enabling students to gradually progress from theoretical knowledge to the development of confident professional skills required for future clinical practice.
