International lecture and practical workshops by professor Michael Schenk held at the KMU Polish CampusAn international lecture and a series of practical workshops delivered by Prof. Dr. Michael Schenk, one of Germany’s leading experts in integrative multimodal pain medicine, were held at the Kyiv Medical University Polish Campus as part of the KMU Voices project and the KMU Summer Clerkship Practice programme. During the lecture, “Pain Medicine: An Interdisciplinary Multimodal Approach to Severe Chronic Pain” Professor Schenk presented contemporary approaches to understanding and managing chronic pain, which is now recognised not merely as a symptom but as a complex disease requiring a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach. Participants gained insight into evidence-based treatment strategies for various chronic pain conditions, including neuropathic pain, musculoskeletal pain, cancer-related pain, fibromyalgia, and headache disorders. Particular attention was given to the role of multidisciplinary teamwork and the integration of pharmacological treatment, physical rehabilitation, psychological support, and patient education within modern multimodal pain management. The practical component of the event consisted of interactive workshops, during which students analysed real clinical cases, discussed clinical decision-making processes, and had the opportunity to engage directly with Professor Schenk by asking questions and receiving valuable professional guidance. The lecture and workshops provided an excellent platform for students’ professional development, expanding their knowledge of current international standards in chronic pain management and offering valuable insights into the practices of leading European medical centres. We sincerely thank Professor Michael Schenk for his inspiring lecture, extensive practical expertise, openness to academic dialogue, and significant contribution to the education of future healthcare professionals. International educational initiatives such as this strengthen academic collaboration, promote the implementation of contemporary clinical practices, and contribute to the continued advancement of medical education at Kyiv Medical University. 21.07.2026
