Dr hab. Piotr Karniej conducted a masterclass at the KMU Polish Campus as part of the KMU Summer Medical Camp 2026

As part of the KMU Summer Medical Camp 2026, the Kyiv Medical University Polish Campus hosted a practical masterclass titled “From Testing to Treatment: A Comprehensive Approach to the Management of People Living with HIV and the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs).”

The session was delivered by Dr hab. Piotr Karniej, Professor at WSB MERITO University in Wrocław, Master of Nursing, HIV/STI advisor, sexologist, and public health expert. Dr hab. Piotr Karniej is also a co-founder and coordinator of the Consultation and Diagnostic Point of the “Trzy Końce” Foundation in Katowice, where he is actively involved in developing modern approaches to HIV testing, prevention, and patient support.

During the masterclass, students explored contemporary European approaches to the prevention, diagnosis, and management of people living with HIV. They also gained practical knowledge on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and current standards of patient care.

Particular attention was given to effective patient communication, conducting diagnostic consultations free from stigma and discrimination, identifying indications for HIV testing, selecting appropriate diagnostic methods, interpreting rapid test results, ensuring safe testing procedures, and understanding patient referral pathways to specialized medical care.

Educational events such as this play an important role in the professional development of future healthcare professionals and deepen their understanding of modern, patient-centred medical practice.
