“Cultural Portal” scientific club meeting was held

On Tuesday, the Department of Social and Humanitarian Disciplines hosted a “Cultural Portal” club session dedicated to the Day of the Ukrainian Language and Writing (November 9).

At the meeting, Iryna Filatenko (PhD) gave a presentation about Ukrainian national traditions and holidays. She presented the brilliant poet and prose writer Taras Shevchenko, renowned Ukrainian athletes and singers (A. Shevchenko, Zh. Beleniuk, Ruslana, Jamala), and more.
International students spoke in Ukrainian when telling about their native languages, notable persons, national traditions, and other fascinating facts about their native countries.

The following students gave presentations:
1. Stephen Boaki (Ghana, Fa1901o), who spoke about the Asante Twi native language, Ghana’s natural resources, and exciting spots to visit in the country.
2. Kiana Didari (Iran, Ca2003o) and Seyed Akbari (Iran, Ca2102o) provided a report on the Persian language, Rudaki, the “Father of the Persians,” and the national features of their country.
3. Ghazaleh Ghaeyni (Iran, Ca2003o) discussed well-known national poets (Saadi, Omar Khayyam, Ferdowsi), as well as the Persian philosopher and physician Ibn Sina, who coined the term “quarantine.”
4. Jeren Yildiz and Enes Ceylan (Turkey, Fa2001o) discussed the history of the Turkish language, its characteristics, and Mustafa Kemal Ataturk’s linguistic reforms.
5. Ceyda Yilmaz (Turkey, Ca2003o) presented the country’s notable individuals (Aziz Sankar, Orhan Pamuk), the best-known Istanbul sights, and Ukrainian-Turkic lexical borrowings.

All of the people present participated in the discussion with enthusiasm. In addition, a language and culture quiz was held at the end of the meeting.
