A practical workshop “From testing to treatment: a comprehensive approach to the care of patients living with HIV and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)” was held at KMU Polish Campus

On 21 August 2026, a practical workshop entitled “From testing to treatment: a comprehensive approach to the care of patients living with HIV and the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs)” was held at KMU Polish Campus in Katowice as part of the KMU Summer Medical Camp 2026.

The workshop was led by Dr hab. Piotr Karniej, Professor at WSB MERITO University in Wrocław, Master of Nursing, HIV/STI consultant, sexologist, and public health specialist.

During the workshop, students enhanced their practical knowledge of HIV, hepatitis C, and syphilis testing, interpretation of rapid test results, patient communication, and referral to specialised medical care.

Particular attention was given to conducting diagnostic interviews in a non-judgmental and non-discriminatory manner, ensuring safe testing procedures, and communicating effectively with patients in the event of a reactive test result.

The workshop provided students of Kyiv Medical University with another valuable opportunity to gain hands-on experience from an international expert and develop competencies essential for their future professional practice within a modern European healthcare system.
