A practical seminar on modern surgical management of ventral hernias held as part of the German-Ukrainian Surgical Summer School 2026An important component of the German-Ukrainian Surgical Summer School was a practical, hands-on seminar dedicated to the modern surgical management of ventral hernias, led by Dr. Ralph Bouchard, an expert in the field of herniology. During the seminar, participants explored contemporary concepts in the treatment of ventral hernias and the principles of selecting the optimal surgical strategy depending on the characteristics of the abdominal wall defect. Particular attention was paid to the practical aspects of reconstruction: modern synthetic materials and their applications for abdominal wall defect closure were demonstrated. The use of botulinum toxin in the modern treatment of complex ventral hernias was also discussed, including its potential, indications, and role within a comprehensive surgical strategy. For the participants, this was an opportunity not only to gain up-to-date theoretical knowledge but also to better understand how modern technologies and surgical concepts are applied in real-world clinical practice. German-Ukrainian Surgical Summer School 2026 is a platform for knowledge exchange, practical training, and the implementation of modern approaches in surgery. 10.08.2026
