Invitation to the Workshop by Dr hab. Piotr Karniej | KMU Summer Medical Camp 2026

Dear Students!

We invite you to an educational workshop within KMU Summer Medical Camp 2026 — a unique opportunity to gain practical knowledge and skills from a leading expert in the fields of public health, HIV/STI prevention, and sexual health.

Workshop Speaker

Dr hab. Piotr Karniej — Professor at WSB MERITO University in Wrocław, Master of Nursing, HIV/STI advisor, sexologist, and public health specialist.

His professional activity includes:

  • sexual health prevention;
  • diagnosis and prevention of sexually transmitted infections;
  • development of support and counselling systems in the field of infection prevention.

Dr hab. Piotr Karniej is a co-founder and coordinator of the Consultation and Diagnostic Point of the “Trzy Końce” Foundation in Katowice, where he develops modern approaches to testing, prevention, and patient support.

Workshop Topic: “From Testing to Treatment: A Comprehensive Approach to the Care of People Living with HIV and Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)”

During the workshop, participants will gain practical knowledge and skills in:

  • conducting professional diagnostic interviews with patients regarding sexual health without prejudice or discriminatory assumptions;
  • understanding the diagnostic window period and recommendations for HIV, HCV, and syphilis testing;
  • selecting appropriate diagnostic methods depending on the clinical situation;
  • interpreting rapid test results;
  • performing tests correctly, avoiding technical and interpretation errors, and organizing a safe testing environment;
  • principles of medical waste management during testing, including outreach testing outside healthcare facilities;
  • communicating with patients receiving reactive test results;
  • further referral of patients to specialized medical care and providing appropriate support.
