Patient safety is one of the fundamental principles of modern medicine and an essential component of high-quality education and training for future healthcare professionals.

In 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) has dedicated World Patient Safety Day to safe care for noncommunicable diseases, under the slogan “Safe care for life!”

People living with cardiovascular diseases, cancer, endocrine disorders, chronic respiratory diseases, and other noncommunicable conditions often require long-term treatment and ongoing interaction with the healthcare system.

Therefore, patient safety must be ensured at every stage of care — from prevention and diagnosis to treatment, medication use, and long-term follow-up.
