Kyiv Medical University Awards Doctor Honoris Causa to Łukasz Pach

On December 5, 2025, Kyiv Medical University (KMU) formally conferred the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa upon Mr. Łukasz Pach, the Director of the Provincial Emergency Medical Service in Katowice.

Mr. Pach is an outstanding leader in emergency medicine, heading one of the largest emergency medical services in Poland. He oversees a fleet of 81 ambulances, serving a region of approximately 3 million people. Under his leadership, the service’s infrastructure has been modernized, crew preparedness has been strengthened, and the working conditions for medical staff have been significantly improved. These advancements have enhanced the effectiveness and readiness of emergency response teams, ensuring better care for the population they serve.

Particular recognition was given to his support for Ukraine during the full-scale war.

His efforts included:

• Mr. Pach facilitated the delivery of vital medical supplies and support to hospitals and clinics in Ukraine, bolstering their capacity during the war.
• He organized and hosted training sessions for Ukrainian first responders and medical specialists, sharing critical emergency medicine knowledge and skills.
• Mr. Pach actively supported the establishment and operation of the KMU Polish Campus in Katowice, Poland. Thanks to this support, dozens of KMU students were able to continue their medical education and complete high-quality clinical practice in the Polish emergency medicine system.

The awarding ceremony  including the presentation of the diploma and the traditional investiture of the honorary doctoral gown  was a poignant symbol of gratitude and respect from the KMU community. Students and faculty alike expressed deep appreciation for Mr. Pach’s professional excellence and humanitarian contributions, as well as for his active assistance to Ukraine during a difficult period.

This event underscored the importance of international cooperation in medicine. It highlighted how collaborative efforts and cross-border support can strengthen healthcare systems in times of crisis.

The Kyiv Medical University’s recognition of Mr. Pach’s work serves as an inspiring reminder of the power of global solidarity and excellence in the medical field.
