Mental Health Awareness Month: Educational Program in Clinical Psychology Presented at KMUOn 15 May, as part of the Mental Health Awareness Month in Ukraine, Kyiv Medical University hosted a presentation of the second (master’s) level educational and professional programme ‘Clinical Psychology’, headed by Yehor Kucherenko, psychologist, PhD in Psychology, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Psychology. The programme was developed by leading Ukrainian psychologists in collaboration with colleagues from the largest university in Northern Ireland, Ulster University. In his welcoming speech to the applicants, the Rector of the University, Borys Ivnev, noted that due to the war, clinical psychologists are in the highest demand in the modern labour market in Ukraine due to the high demand for quality psychological care in healthcare facilities. Kateryna Anzina, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Psychology, spoke about the benefits of studying at Kyiv Medical University, its scientific and pedagogical potential, infrastructure, modern approach to the educational process and the Polish Campus. Yegor Kucherenko introduced the teachers of the Clinical Psychology programme to the applicants and noted that it differs from other programmes of the C4 Psychology speciality in that it provides an in-depth study of such disciplines as pathopsychology, basics of psychiatry, trauma psychology, psychopharmacology, methods of psychotherapy, and neuropsychology. Such a selection of subjects provides not only superficial knowledge of psychology, which is appropriate for a counselling psychologist, but also gives the specialist a complete understanding of the functioning of mental processes for the purpose of effective corrective action. Mykola Hryshkov, Director of the Directorate for Education, spoke about the conditions of admission to the Clinical Psychology programme, the forms and cost of training, as well as the work of the Admissions Committee. The students of the programme, Anna Chernikova and Oleksii Illinikh, shared their positive impressions of their studies, spoke about the training (clinical) practice, the peculiarities of teaching certain psychology courses, the favourable atmosphere at the faculty and student-centred communication with the teachers of the Department of Psychology. At the end of the presentation, Professor Ivan Soroka, President of the Ukrainian Medical Club, presented unique artefacts related not only to the history of medicine, but also to the study of the nervous system and the psyche in rare works by prominent scientists and a collection of material culture items at the Museum of Medicine of the CMU.
