Winter Professional School on Law, Ethics, and Management in Healthcare: Synergy of Knowledge for Practical ApplicationOn February 26-27, a large-scale event took place at Kyiv Medical University – the Winter Professional School of Kyiv Medical University on Law, Ethics, and Management in Healthcare. It brought together over 100 participants (in-person and online) – heads of medical institutions, doctors, pharmacists, lawyers, scientists, representatives of civil society, and students. After all, today it is no longer enough to be a good doctor or pharmacist to succeed – one needs to possess managerial and digital competencies, understand issues of medical law, and be able to resolve ethical dilemmas. The moderator of the event was Radmyla HREVTSOVA, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Health Studies at Kyiv Medical University, Governor of the World Association for Medical Law (Ukraine), PhD (Law), Professor, and Advocate. Key Program Blocks The first block of the Winter School was devoted to the doctor’s personal branding and the reputation management of a healthcare institution. Ivan SOROKA, obstetrician-gynecologist, therapist, President of the Ukrainian Medical Club, and Professor at the Department of Medical Support Organization of the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy, spoke about the characteristics and evidence of a “brand-doctor.” After the presentation, he answered numerous questions from participants: “Should a doctor maintain a TikTok?”, “How to react to hate on social media?”, “Can social media addiction affect a doctor’s psychological well-being?” “A doctor’s brand is formed through three things: the quality of clinical decisions, participation in professional events, and the doctor’s willingness to share experience and learn,” emphasized Serhiy SOSHYNSKYI, Master of Business Administration, Master of Psychology, President of the “Health of the Ukrainian Nation” International Charitable Foundation and CEO of the continuous professional development platform for doctors accemedin.com. Participants learned about how reputation differs from a brand and image, why reputation is simultaneously an intangible asset and a management risk, and how to respond to reputational incidents from Nataliia KONDRATIUK, Head of the Department of Medical Care Organization at the State Scientific Institution “Center for Innovative Healthcare Technologies” of the State Management of Affairs, PhD (Medicine), and Associate Professor at the Department of Public Health and Microbiology at Kyiv Medical University. Olha KOVALENKO, PhD (Public Administration) and a master’s student of the program “Management of Healthcare Institutions”, spoke about the master’s program taught at Kyiv Medical University. By the way, a number of speakers who were well-received by the event participants teach in the modern and practically oriented “Management of Medical Institutions” educational and professional program. The second block of the Winter Professional School was devoted to the ethics of communication and algorithms for legal protection in conflicts during the provision of medical care. Radmyla HREVTSOVA, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Health Studies at Kyiv Medical University, PhD (Law), and medical advocate, shared practical recommendations on informing patients, using communication to prevent conflicts, conducting negotiations, and formalizing their results. Oksana DVIRSKA, Head of the Internship Department at Kyiv Medical University, a doctor and lawyer, spoke about mediation and the possibilities of its use in the practice of healthcare institutions. The speech by Anna HALETA, PhD, Master of Psychology, Master of Management, and President of the “Kindness of Hearts” International Charitable Organization, was devoted to the ethical-psychological and spiritual peculiarities of providing medical and rehabilitation care to certain groups of patients in wartime conditions. The third block focused on legal safety and the ethical dilemmas of implementing innovations. Roman MAIDANYK, Chief Researcher at the Research Institute of Private Law and Entrepreneurship named after Academician F.G. Burchak of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, PhD (Law), Full Professor, full member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, and attorney, spoke about what is considered artificial intelligence, whether personal data can be used to train AI, and what liability may arise in case of harm to a patient due to the use of AI. Telemedicine was also in the focus of the Winter Professional School. The second day of the event was also full of interesting reports and insights. The fourth and fifth blocks of the Winter School were devoted to regulatory issues, legal liability, and professional leadership in modern conditions. Labor law in medicine was the focus of Serhiy KUBANSKYI, attorney, labor arbitrator, and Head of the Council of the Kyiv City Trade Union of Healthcare Workers. Halyna MYRONOVA, PhD (Law) and Head of the Laboratory of Medical Law at the Research Institute of Private Law and Entrepreneurship named after Academician F. G. Burchak of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, spoke about the legal consequences of the adoption of the Law of Ukraine “On the Peculiarities of Regulating the Activities of Legal Entities of Certain Organizational and Legal Forms during the Transition Period and Associations of Legal Entities” and practical algorithms to ensure compliance. Anastasiia SUKHODOLSKA, attorney and PhD (Law), touched upon the mechanisms of cooperation between healthcare institutions and the National Health Service of Ukraine. Participants not only received new knowledge on the basics of marketing and legislative novelties but also improved their interpersonal communication skills, and enhanced their ability to apply ethical and legal principles and modern technologies in medical practice. The Winter Professional School, organized by Kyiv Medical University with the support of the Research Institute of Private Law and Entrepreneurship named after Academician F.G. Burchak of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, the International Association for Medical Law, and the “Kindness of Hearts” International Charitable Organization, received positive feedback and new proposals for cooperation.
