International Clinical Internship in Germany – German-Ukrainian Surgical Summer School 2026 | Call for Applications

Dear students of the medical faculty of Kyiv Medical University,

Kyiv Medical University, in accordance with its agreements with Universitätsklinikum Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH, Lübeck, Germany), is organizing student participation in the international clinical project German-Ukrainian Surgical Summer School 2026, a unique opportunity for talented and motivated future medical professionals of Ukraine to complete practical training at one of Europe’s leading university hospitals.

This is an intensive 3-week clinical program (12 July 2026 – 1 August 2026), during which participants will immerse themselves, alongside the best Ukrainian students, in a real European medical environment and gain invaluable international clinical experience.

The program includes:

  • Daily participation in clinical work within hospital departments;

  • Morning clinical briefings with medical staff;

  • Teamwork alongside physicians;

  • Blood sampling for laboratory testing;

  • Assisting during surgical procedures;

  • Familiarization with the organization of modern German healthcare.

Main areas of training:

  • Visceral surgery;

  • Vascular surgery;

  • Orthopedics and traumatology;

  • Cardiovascular surgery;

  • Plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Participation in the program is free of charge (no program participation fee). However, participants are responsible for covering travel, accommodation, and personal expenses.

Financial Information

Estimated expenses:

  • Accommodation — approximately €500 (€25 × 20 days);

  • Travel:

    • From Kyiv to Lübeck — approximately €100–250;

    • From Katowice to Lübeck — up to €100;

  • Breakfasts and dinners — at the participant’s own expense;

  • Lunches at the university hospital cafeteria are covered by UKSH (students will receive meal vouchers).

Please note that the above amounts are approximate and may vary depending on booking time and travel route.

Recognition of Summer Practical Training

We understand that students may have scheduled summer practical training during this period. Please be informed that part of the internship completed in Germany will be officially recognized.

Components that are not automatically credited may be completed additionally free of charge.

The university administration fully supports students in gaining international clinical experience and advancing their professional development.

Eligibility Criteria

Fourth- and fifth-year students are invited to apply if they:

  • Demonstrate strong academic performance;

  • Show a clear interest in surgical disciplines;

  • Participate in scientific research activities;

  • Possess English or German language proficiency sufficient for clinical communication;

  • Are prepared for intensive clinical work.

Selection Process

The competitive selection includes:

  • Completion of a registration Google Form;

  • Submission of a motivation letter (½ page) in English or German.

The motivation letter must be written personally by the applicant. The use of artificial intelligence for its preparation is strictly prohibited.

Application deadline: Friday, 6 March 2026 (inclusive).

The number of places is limited. Selection will be conducted on a competitive basis.
