Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine

Oksana Sulaieva, the doctor of medical sciences, professor, Head of the department of Pathology and forensic medicine at Kyiv Medical University.

Oksana Sulaieva graduated from Donetsk National Medical University with honors in 1997 and got PhD degree in 2001. In 2016 she obtained a professorship. During the period from 2016 to 2022, Oksana Sulaieva was elected and operated as General Secretary at ORPHEUS  (The Organisation for PhD Education in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in the European System). Besides, professor Sulaieva was a member of the Research Board at the National Research Foundation of Ukraine (2018-2020). From 2020 to 2024 Oksana Sulaieva studied at Loyola University Chicago and obtained the degree of Master of Art in Bioethics and Health Policy (2022), and a Doctor of Bioethics (2024). Since 2017 р. prof. Sulaieva has been working at the Medical Laboratory CSD combining diagnostic activities with scientific projects in pathology, diabetology and biomaterial research. In 2024 Oksana Sulaieva started working as a Head of the Department of Pathology in Kyiv Medical University.

The scientific interests of professor Oksana Sulaieva include the investigation inf the filed of cancer genomics and immunooncology, as well as translational studies in biomaterial research. Oksana Sulaieva is author and coauthor of numerous publications, her h-index is 10 (Scopus). Now, Oksana Sulaieva is a member of USCAP, ASCP, ESMO, AMP and ISBER, and also was elected and work at the position of Chair of Ukrainian association of Research Biobanks.

The department staff published a methodological manual “Workbook on pathophysiology in two languages. The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department developed a number of methodological recommendations for students in the following educational components: pathomorphology, histology, pathophysiology.

The textbook “Clinical histology” is being prepared for publication.

The department prepares students for certification: EDKI (Stage 1, Integrated test exam STEP 1);

The directions of scientific work of the department are: pathomorphology and pathomorphosis of modern infectious diseases, pathomorphology of cardiovascular diseases and respiratory diseases, pathomorphology of diseases of the female reproductive system;

The history of the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine began on May 5, 1992. To organize the educational process, three departments were created:

  • Pathological Anatomy
  • Histology, Cytology and Embryology
  • Forensic Medicine

 

In 2006, the departments were merged.

 

History of the Department of Pathological Anatomy:

On October 31, 1992, Petro Ivanovich Chervyak was appointed the first head of the Department of Pathological Anatomy

From 1994 to 2005, the department was headed by Serhiy Grigorovich Gichka

The history of the Department of Histology, Cytology and Embryology began in 1992 under the leadership of Hryhoriy Borisovich Kostynsky

From 1999-2000, the department was headed by Andriy Konstantinovich Kolomiytsev

From 2001-2003 the department is headed by Kostynskyi Grigoriy Borisovich

since 2004 the department is headed by Neumerzhytskyi Oleksandr Leonidovich

 

History of the Department of Forensic Medicine:

The Department of Forensic Medicine was established in 1992.

since 1992 the department was headed by Lisovyi Anatoliy Semenovich

since 2011 the head of the department was Shevchuk Vadim Avramovich

since 2019 the head of the educational component is Bondar Stanislav Stepanovych.

 

In 2006 the departments were merged and renamed the Department of “Pathological Anatomy, Histology and Forensic Medicine”, which was headed by Gichka Serhiy Grigorovich.

In 2023 the reorganization of the department took place. The department has added the educational component “Pathophysiology” and renamed it the Department of “Pathology and Forensic Medicine”. Since August 2024, the position of head of the department has been held by Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences Sulaeva Oksana Mykolaivna.
